When you are building a website, you need a domain name.  Buying a domain name should be one of your first priorities, it does not cost much.  You can then get your site up live on the internet but you will need a hosting account.  Having a website increases your profile with search engines and guarantees return visitors.

Trademark - One of the last things to consider is to ensure that you are not treading on anyone else's trademark.  Before purchasing a name, make sure to do a quick web search to ensure that you are not treading on any toes.  If you register the wrong domain, you may find yourself getting sued for trademark infringement.
